Junctioner
Junctioner is a photographic series exploring themes of family, community, grief, and loss. It emerged as a personal response to my grandfather’s sudden transition from independent living to the care system. Through this work, I reflect on my experience as a young adult navigating the complex emotional terrain of supporting a loved one facing illness—specifically cancer—and the tension between offering care and confronting the vulnerability of watching my childhood hero lose parts of himself.
Visually, Junctioner is rooted in the tradition of British social documentary, particularly the photographic inquiries of the post-Thatcher era. The work is saturated with rich, vivid colors that reflect the unyielding, sometimes stubborn, lightheartedness of people in this country who endure political austerity, sickness, and personal turmoil with a resilient "grin and bear it" mentality. It’s an exploration of how we rely on community and loved ones to navigate life’s challenges.
Ultimately, Junctioner seeks to capture what is most important at the crossroads of life—the moments when we are forced to confront change, loss, and the fragile nature of our identities
