Day Tripper is a photographic project rooted in the 1980’s British social documentary traditions that emerged during Thatcher’s government. The series of images centers on the importance of local bus services to people in isolated Cornwall. Produced over several months, the work details the dependency these locals have on public services. Bus journeys act as a lifeline between being able to go shopping, visit a GP or a commute to work. Many bus routes no longer exist, a consequence of decades of austerity and funding cuts. And there is uncertainty whether public transport will be further impacted. My images act to show the humanity of the passengers going about their daily lives, their movements, and expressions when freedom is not in their own hands.
